This article provides definitions of autism, an overview of literature, as well as effective approaches and recommendations for rehabilitation professionals who work with individuals with autism. Olney identifies the various models of autism including the historical and theoretical, neurobiological, clinical-behavioral, dyspraxia, and social model. Through an analysis of autobiographies of numerous individuals, the article intends to provide an “insider’s” perspective of the experience of autism.
