Guide: OPWDD: On the Scene and Informed – First Response and Autism

This guide was created by the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities as a training document for first responders to learn about recognizing people with autism and behaviors they may encounter. It is intended to help first responders understand what autism is, recognize what is really happening in a situation involving someone with an ASD, and understand how to modify response techniques to avoid unfortunate and unnecessary outcomes.
