The year is quickly coming to an end, and it is time again to enjoy the Holidays. 2011 was a good year for the Autism NOW center reaching over 1 million families, professionals, self-advocates, and the general public through our social media outlets, and we are expecting 2012 to be even better.
I’ll be honest: I have an agenda. That agenda is to raise the awareness and use of technology options and solutions for people with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities, and their families.
Over the last 12 months Autism NOW has given hope to more than a million people and the public has turned to the National Autism Resource and Information Center for information, referral services and empowerment.
The DC Autism Now Regional Summit was the most enriching experience we have had in a long time. We came as parents to gain more knowledge and perspective for our daughter Jazmyn, and we left with much more.
At the Autism NOW DC Regional Summit, the team from Self-Advocates Becoming Empowered had many opportunities to participate as attendees, speakers and panelists, and leaders for break-out sessions.
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” These words from Helen Keller found themselves in my head while I was reflecting on my experience as a volunteer at the Autism NOW DC Metropolitan Area Regional Summit.
I had the pleasure of being the appointed emcee for the first Autism NOW Regional Summit held in Beltsville, Maryland.
